Destruction – Diabolical

German thrash metal veterans DESTRUCTION celebrate their 40th anniversary by setting the world ablaze with a new, hard-hitting grenade in the form of their new album, Diabolical (out April 8, 2022 via Napalm Records). As one of the most legendary German thrash metal bands in existence, DESTRUCTION grace the wall of fame alongside giants like Kreator, Sodom and Tankard and a new album from them is always something to look forward to. So here we are with 'Diabolical', will they have changed things up a bit or simply stuck to their destructive guns?

After a short instrumental intro they are throwing 12 songs of finest speed-loaded thrash metal at you. And they did not lose a single bit of aggression and power ever since ‘Mad Butcher’ was released in the early 80’s. Prepare your neck before listening – this will get you into massive head-banging mode. Drums are raging and pushing, riffs as sharp as knife to cut into your brain. You do get the full-fetched thrash metal experience that you do rightfully expect from the veterans of thrash. The title track ‘Diabolical’ follows the intro  – there is not much to say about the content, it is about being evil, the devil himself. ‘No Faith In Humanity’ follows which has become even more politically context at current times; something I do not think that Destruction had in mind when writing the song. ‘Repent your sins’ – already released as video (see video link below in the article and enjoy) telling us more about preaching different than your actions…. One great song after the other gives you a fat punch in your stomach. Destruction just keep marching on.

‘Tormented Soul‘ is the first little rest you’ll get after six full-force songs. It is a metal song as interlude to all the thrash metal wall coming over you. After this little break it goes on and Destruction hits you with more no-compromise, fast as lighting powerful songs. They close down their album with a great G.B.H. cover version of ‘City Baby Attacked By Rats’. Mixing the hardcore punk song with thrash metal elements into a perfectly symbiosis without letting it loose it’s punk roots. Destruction deliver the brutal sound and speed we all love ever since. The speed drumming in ‘Last Of  A Dying Breed’ really is knocking me off my chair – my favorite song of the album.

Schmier’s voice is still shrieking as ever before and giving you the creeps all up your spine. Destruction are not disappointing you and they prove why they are still a thrash metal icon after all this years and haven’t lost a little bit of their power and drive. All fans in the US can be looking forward to their US Tour starting on April 28th, 2022 with support act NERVOSA – getting a ‘Diabolical’ live experience.

Destruction Line-Up:

This album is a no-miss entry for any thrash metal album collection. Destruction keep their traditions and give you what you deserve. 11 ultra-brutal, extremely fast and hard thrash metal songs that drill a whole in your head and one not so fast nonetheless awesome metal song. Recommended.
