Belgium’s Herzog release date for final album and first track unveiled

Black Metal

Amor Fati Productions announces October 26th as the international release date for the second and final album of Belgium’s Herzog, Mugwort, on CD and vinyl LP formats.

Mugwort is the swansong of our beloved husband, brother, son, and friend, Asgeir Amort.

The composition of this album began in 2024, in a state of pure potential, of futures dreamt and hopes risen high. It emerged from a soul with an endless thirst for life, a contagious gift for joy, and a ravenous desire to create. Yet, nested in his core, death was on its way.

Unbeknownst to him, to his wife, to his family and friends, a silent and vicious disease had taken hold. Moving into 2025, a persistent and unfamiliar pain. Frightening images. And then the culprit: a vertebra, devoured and collapsed, as though struck by a curse. The brutal revelation of an aggressive kidney cancer. Surgery followed surgery in a desperate effort to preserve his mobility. Asgeir fought—with hope, with fury, with dignity—determined to reclaim his future. But the odds were cruel and interventions inevitably failed. Paralysed from the chest down, the numbness creeping upward, time suddenly measured not in years but in months.

Months left to live. Months to write. Months to complete what he had begun. Finishing this album became his obsession.

Mugwort tells the story of Asgeir Amort’s final year among us. It speaks of shock, of pain, of the violence of losing everything you held true. It speaks of struggle—and of survival in its deepest sense. But above all, it speaks of love. Of how Asgeir, amid the immeasurable pain of being robbed of his future, his youth, his body, found the courage and strength to rise into a place of unconditional love, his wheelchair bounding his body, yet his soul standing upright, in acceptance and defiance.

This album is also a testament to the wild unpredictability of life—its absurdity, its cruelty, its fragile beauty. It tells of the strength found in presence. Of living fiercely in the moment when tomorrow is no longer promised. Of resilience. Of perseverance. Of dignity in the face of the inevitable.

Asgeir was joyful, witty, luminous. A radiant force to all who knew him. He left this world as he lived in it—wrapped in love, courage, and grace.

In the first part of this story, you will hear Asgeir’s own voice. In the second, written after cancer had stolen his diaphragm, his wife Isa Myling carries his words forward—a lament, a continuation, a final act of love.

This is Mugwort.
