Block Of Flats release new single ‘What’s Your Excuse?’ featuring Blind Channel’s Alex and Niko
Finnish alternative rock and metal band Block of Flats have released their new single, ‘What’s Your Excuse?’. Following the approach of their previous single, ‘I Stand Below It All’, the track was created in collaboration with Blind Channel members Alex Mattson and Niko Moilanen. Jonas Olsson and Rami Nykänen also contributed to the production.
Moving away from traditional rock and metal clichés without losing its rock and metal DNA, the band describes the new song as a particularly fresh direction. Its message is also a personal one, encouraging listeners to stop making excuses and pursue what they really want to do.
“‘What’s Your Excuse?’ feels really fresh to us because we deliberately left out traditional rock and metal clichés without the song losing its rock or metal DNA. The message of the song also resonates with me personally: sometimes you need that final push to stop making excuses and do what you actually want to do. I hope the song can give others the same push. Working with Alex and Niko from Blind Channel felt really natural, and Rami Nykänen and Jonas Olsson brought their own strengths to the production,” the band explains.
The single is accompanied by a music video created by Aleksi Hakala of Hakalight, which can be watched here.
In February 2027, Block of Flats will join Blind Channel as special guests on their Painstream Tour, travelling across Europe and the UK. The upcoming run marks a natural continuation of the band’s international expansion over recent years. In 2025, they toured Europe alongside Finnish rock band The Rasmus and American act The Funeral Portrait.
“ In February 2027, we will head out as special guests on Blind Channel’s Painstream Tour across Europe and the UK. Last year, we toured Europe with The Rasmus and the American band The Funeral Portrait, so this feels like a perfect continuation of that, especially as Central Europe is an important market for us. We know the guys from Blind Channel, both bands’ music has been moving in a heavier direction, and we’re also building our live show to be a bit heavier and darker for the tour.”
The band also announced a lineup change in September, revealing that bassist Kauri Koponen would be leaving after almost ten years together. The departure took place on good terms, and Block of Flats will continue as a trio for the time being, without rushing to find a fourth member.
“In recent years, more of the responsibility for the band had already been divided between the three of us, so although the change is bittersweet, the band actually feels even stronger as a trio now. We share the same direction, goals and desire to give this our all. We’re not going to force the search for a fourth member, but open applications are, of course, always welcome at the band’s email address.”
