Boundary-breaking Rabbit Cult releases ‘Bunny Anthem’ single
Bunny metal duo Rabbit Cult, which spices up electronic pop metal with a kantele, one of the most interesting new bands in the country last year, and the duo formed by Salla-Marja Hätinen and Marianne Heikkinen continues the confusion now with their single Bunny Anthem. It is also the first song that they have produced themselves. The song was mixed and mastered by Oscar Nilsson, who has previously worked with The Halo Effect and the Haunted, among others, at Studio Bohus.
“Bunny Anthem is the first song Marianne wrote for Rabbit Cult. I had just broken my collarbone when a car crashed into me, and when I went to the surgery, I said that Marianne could write a song for us in the meantime. Marianne introduced this song to me by saying ‘this will never be released’, and I didn’t know what to expect at all, as I hadn’t heard Marianne’s demos much before this. But I was immediately on fire about this,” Salla says.
So Marianne had to reverse her decision – luckily this way. A strong contrast between the melody and the lyrics emerged quickly, and it was precisely that ironic, twisted sense of danger and conflict that took the song to a new level.
“In retrospect, Bunny Anthem perfectly sums up everything that Rabbit Cult and bunny metal represent to us, but when I was working on this song, I was both excited and a little ashamed at the same time. I wondered if it was possible to make a song like this. And I remember how high the threshold was for me to play the demo of the song for Salla, I think I said ‘this is a joke’ to alleviate the shame.”
Rabbit Cult‘s two already released singles, Cute AF and Pink Rifle, have already taken the duo to warm up for Lordi at gigs in Finland, and in May, Rabbit Cult will be seen at the new Capital Of Metal export event for Finnish metal music at Tavastia in Helsinki. The summer gigs also include performing at the Hellsinki Metal Festival.
