Dutch newcomers Traverus reveal new single and lyric video ‘Eye To Eye’
Traversus have released their second single “Eye To Eye” as a successor to the first single “Maybe In Another Life” which are both part of their upcoming EP ‘Navigate’. “Eye To Eye” is one of the last songs which the band finished writing for this EP. The song is about being held hostage by your past and not knowing whether you’ll ever be able to live your life fully. It follows the process of denial and hatred on the path to acceptance and healing. This song features some of the more aggressive guitar work on the EP. Having said that, the first chorus takes a step back to give some breathing space after the intense intro and first verse. With its powerful meaning and dynamic song structure this song is sure to pack a punch.
Drums and vocals are recorded at Sandlane Recording Facilities with producer Joost van den Broek and engineer Jos Driessen. Guitar and bass were recorded in collaboration with Ian G Sound Endeavors and were later reamped at Sandlane. The record has an overall heavier sound and message that perfectly fits the direction that the band is heading towards.
Extremes are able to coexist. If there is one medium which proves beyond all doubt that this is possible, it would be music. Dutch metal band Traversus understands this, and made it their mission to bridge divides both musically and lyrically. Their hard rock sound is enhanced with influences from progressive rock and metal, and as such, manages to seamlessly blend the theoretical with the emotional.
Being from a relatively small town in the east of the Netherlands, with a very limited rock scene to speak of, allowed Traversus to hone their sound over multiple years. The dense riff work by guitarist Joey Wessels and intricate rhythms by drummer Liam de Groot are more than happy to take a back seat to create space for the sonorous voice of Madelief de Groot whenever the music requires it. This surprisingly accessible combination of styles allows the band to build a close connection with both mainstream rock and adventurous metal audiences.
Traversus finally released their debut EP ‘The Only Way Is Through’ in early 2023. The EP was recorded with renowned producer Joost van den Broek (Epica, Ayreon, Powerwolf) and perfectly captures the band’s reasonably complex, yet highly catchy sound. Lyrically, the band touches on personal struggles, as well as societal issues, such as the effect that today’s society has on mental health.
Currently, Traversus is working on the release of their second EP called ‘Navigate’ that is set to be released on the 12th of September. The first single ‘Maybe In Another Life’ was released on the 11th of April and the second single Eye To Eye on the 6th of June. ’Navigate’ showcases the band’s developed sound and continues where ‘The Only Way Is Through’ left off to pursue its purpose of navigating through a world that has lost its way. Traversus cordially invites you to join them on their musical journey.
‘Navigate’ continues where ‘The Only Way Is Through’ left off. Stylistically and lyrically. The sound has become even more evolved. With its unique blend of odd time signatures, rich harmonies but often open and catchy choruses it’s a big step forward in the development of the band and is recognizable as the Traversus sound.
The first single ‘Maybe In Another Life’ is released on the 11th of April. It’s about despair, longing for change and wanting to rebuild our connecting with nature in a world that’s lost her way. This is a common topic that continues throughout the entire EP. The single version of ‘Maybe In Another Life’ is only a radio edit, the EP contains an extended version with an extended middle section. This middle section showcases the more progressive side of the band that you can also hear on tracks like Headline Anxiety and Eye To Eye. The songs No Way To Silence Me but especially Dead Hands showcase the band’s ability to take a step back and instead of letting the riffs do the talking, the melodies take over.
