Finnish melodeath outfit I Am Your God cover Sentenced’s ‘Farewell’

Melodic Death Metal

Finnish melodeath unit I Am Your God released their cover of Sentenced‘s “Farewell” via Out Of Line Music. The release date is no coincidence: October 1, 2026 marks exactly 21 years since Sentenced played their final show at Club Teatria in Oulu, Finland. “Farewell” is the fourth single from Foregods, an upcoming EP honoring the forefathers of extreme metal, due November 20, 2026.

Sentenced occupy a unique place in Finnish metal history, a band whose melodic, melancholic world and dark humour set them apart, and whose theatrical farewell became the stuff of legend. “Farewell,” taken from Sentenced‘s 2005 swansong The Funeral Album, distills everything that made the band special: gothic heaviness, deep melody, and a bittersweet resignation that lingers long after the song ends. I Am Your God bring it into the present with full force while preserving the emotional weight of the original.

The choice of “Farewell” was personal. Vocalist Julius Vetämäjärvi brought the song to the Foregods project, drawn to the way Sentenced represented something genuinely different – in mood, style, and story – from I Am Your God‘s own melodeath roots.

“Sentenced is one of the bands that has always been there for many of us. Their super melodic and melancholic world combined with dark humour is something totally unique, as well as the story of the band with their theatrical and permanent ending. ‘Farewell’ was Julius’s choice for Foregods EP, to make it more versatile and also to bring in something very different from our own style. The release date is 1st of October, to respect the memory of dear Sentenced, deceased at Club Teatria in Oulu, Finland on 1.10.2005.”

Foregods gathers five covers from five formative bands: Children of Bodom, Iron Maiden, In Flames, Sentenced, and Dissection, with each member contributing one pick. The full EP arrives November 20, 2026, via Out Of Line Music, after a summer playing SUMMER BREEZE Festival, Brutal Assault and a number of club shows across Europe.

With “Farewell,” I Am Your God close out the singles run with their most quietly devastating entry yet, a tribute rooted in genuine love for a band that left Finnish metal changed forever.

Founded in Rovaniemi, Finland in 2018, I Am Your God blend melodic death metal with modern metalcore energy and a distinctly Nordic edge. The quintet — Julius Vetämäjärvi (vocals), Matti Hietala (guitar), Joonas Erkkonen (guitar), Joonas Roivainen (bass), and Atte Autio (drums) — released their debut album The Resurrection via Out Of Line Music in 2020, followed by SINister in 2023 and Δ (Trinity) in 2025. Drawing comparisons to Children of Bodom, In Flames, and Soilwork, the band are one of Finland’s most promising rising forces in extreme metal. Foregods is out November 20, 2026 via Out Of Line Music.
