Rabbit Cult shares their latest single ‘Scandal’

Alternative Metal, Alternative Rock, Pop

Rabbit Cult, who have already attracted a lot of attention with their first singles Cute AF, Pink Rifle and Bunny Anthem , released their brand new song Scandal. The new song intertwines all the essential musical elements of bunny metal, such as techno and metal influences, kantele and multi-layered lyrics.

“This song originated in our living room/home studio at the time from Marianne’s statement that a song should be written about Sanna Marin. I replied that let’s write! Marin was prime minister at the time, and we had followed with confusion (and a slight rage) the incomprehensible news about Marin in several media outlets throughout her term as prime minister,” Salla-Marja recalls.

“There was something so crazy about Sanna Marin’s treatment that I had to write about it. It was a manhunt, and I remember being sincerely angry about it. It felt like everything he did was fundamentally wrong, and it was reported in a very insulting tone. At the same time, I thought about myself and all the other young women who, partly as outsiders, followed it all – how does society’s misogynistic worldview affect us all?”, Marianne ponders, and continues:

“When I was composing this song, I was especially thinking about the controversy that arose from the video of Marin dancing uninhibited at a house party. I wanted to make the song so that you could dance and sing along, like Marin in that leaked video!”

Salla-Marja says that she was stuck writing new music until the gates opened

“The summer and autumn of 2024 were extremely difficult for me, and I didn’t compose or write anything for months. However, everything changed at some point. I made a blank for the phone’s voice recorder, which in practice ended up directly as the bridge and c-part of this song. I don’t know if Marin ever thought during her term as prime minister about how far the situation could go, how long she could endure the situation or how deep it could take her, but I did.”

Rabbit Cult‘s fourth release, Scandal, is, like its predecessor Bunny Anthem, entirely the band’s own handiwork, and it has been composed, written, recorded and produced entirely by the band. The mixing was again done by Oscar Nilsson from Studio Bohus, and the mastering was done by the Grammy Award-winning The Panic Room Studios.

Rabbit Cult‘s first festival gig will be at the Hellsinki Metal Festival on Friday 8.8. The bunnies will perform on the main stage at 14:15.

Rabbit Cult is:
Salla-Marja – Singing, kantele and whatever is needed
Marianne – drums, percussion, bass, guitar, keyboards, backing vocals
