Faun release new single and video ‘Lady Isobel’ from upcoming album

Dark Folk, Folk, Pagan Folk

“Lady Isobel” is a very personal ballad of Oliver Satyr. With lute (Liuto Forte) and vocals, the singer uses poetic images to tell the story of an enchanting woman who seems to be trapped in the tower of her loneliness. Enriched with flutes and synthesizers, FAUN prove once again with this ballad how much they know how to create their own musical world, which is able to defy any genre boundaries with a weightless beauty.

Watch the new video for “Lady Isobel” here:

Oliver Satyr comments:

“Lady Isobel has its source in one of my poems, which I wrote about a dear friend of mine.  The lute accompaniment was inspired by the guitar playing of, for example, Nick Drake and Bert Jansch. Together with great vocals, flute playing, synthesizers and rhythms of my band colleagues, ‚Lady Isobel’ has become a wonderfully floating ballad that I am very proud of.“

After FAUN were under contract with Universal Music from 2012 – 2019 and achieved great success with their albums there, such as gold and platinum status, their first album on their own label “Pagan Folk Records” was released in April 2022. This album called “PAGAN” was enthusiastically acclaimed by the press and the audience. In cooperation with the distributor Believe / Soulfood, “PAGAN” entered the German album charts at number three. The band has also announced its intention to return to its musical roots with mystical, archaic folk and enchanted ballads for its upcoming album, which is scheduled for release September 5th 2025.

The album title “Hex” is derived from “Hexe” german: witch / ahd. ‘Hagazussa’ (= the one who walks between the worlds). So this twelfth studio album by FAUN is about witches, female healers and wise women. Far away from the cliché of the evil fairytale witch, the german ensemble wants to highlight the various aspects of female magic in different cultures and the legitimate question why we still fear the evil witches instead of the people who burned them.
