After a first listen I was not that impressed by this Deadwood. A lot of chaos, vocals that dissapear into the sound. But after a few listens it growed on me. They blend death metal with hardcore to create a modern deathcore sound. I wouldn’t call it full on deathcore but yeah getting there. There touching the boundaries of deathcore. ‘Tales Of Massacre’ starts off in pure chaos but then the chaos lingers and you see light at the end of the tunnel. Things are getting clearer and you can see where they are going. Death metal – check, some black metal elements – check and indeed the core elements are there. But the mixture could be better, it’s a little bit chaotic. If you like your music with a little chaos this is definitly for you, but I need a little more structure. With ‘Heretic’ we’re getting somewhere but in my opinion it’s not a deathcore band like they mentioned. It’s more a death/black metal band. But who cares. Music is music whatever it is. So with ‘Heretic’ we’re getting that mixture of black and death metal. With ‘Thirst Of Blood’ I got the same feeling as metioned earlier. The vocals are getting swallowed by the wall of sound. The vocals are too silent in the mix.

‘Whispers Of Death’ gives me the same feeling. It’s in between. I don’t like to be negative about something cause every album has a lot of labour and work in it. But it just doesn’t get me. I don’t see where they’re going, the mixture is not that good really. But I hear the potential these guys have. So I would say keep going and try to pick a side. We end this EP with ‘Echoes Of The Fallen’ and it’s hard cause. I don’t like it very much. But I know other will like it so don’t mind me. It’s just my opinion. The opinion of one guy doesn’t make the album.

Deadwood, don’t let my bad vibes bring you down. There are people out there that will agree with me and some that will hear something else. So this is me to everybody else: Please give it a try. It isn’t my cup of tea but maybe it’s yours. And maybe you find a new band to follow and see grow.
