Norwegian gothic doom force Evig Natt unveils haunting lyric video ‘Death’

Doom Metal, Gothic Metal

Emerging from the mist-shrouded shores of Norway’s metal heartland, EVIG NATT continues their descent into the sublime with the release of their soul-stirring new lyric video, “Death.” The track is taken from their highly anticipated fourth studio album, Vaketimen, set to be unleashed on February 20, 2025, via Wormholedeath.

The single draws inspiration from the iconic character Death from Neil Gaiman’s The Sandman, portraying her not as a threat but as a calm and inevitable presence. She is neither good nor evil. She arrives when the time has come, whether we are ready or not, and guides the transition with quiet dignity. The song reflects on humanity’s fear of death, shaped largely by the unknown rather than by reality itself. The result is a restrained, emotional piece that leans into atmosphere and weight rather than shock.

With Vaketimen, EVIG NATT continue to refine their signature sound: slow-burning, orchestral gothic doom marked by tension, melody, and darkness that feels earned. Aggressive yet subtle, heavy yet elegant, the band balance crushing riffs with cinematic arrangements and expressive vocals.

Formed in 2003 in Karmøy, western Norway, EVIG NATT began as a studio project by vocalist Kirsten Jørgensen and bassist Stein Sund, later joined by drummer Harald Magne Revheim. The band released their acclaimed debut I Am Silence in 2007 via Omvina Records, followed by Darkland in 2010 on Black Bards, earning international praise and features in magazines such as Metal Hammer and Scream. Their self-titled third album arrived in 2016 and led to tours across Europe and Japan.

Musically, EVIG NATT sit at the crossroads of gothic doom, progressive metal, and black metal, with influences ranging from Anathema and My Dying Bride to Swallow The Sun and The Provenance. Members have also been connected to Norwegian metal pillars Einherjer and Enslaved, further grounding the band in the country’s heavy legacy.

With Vaketimen, EVIG NATT sound focused, mature, and unafraid to let the music breathe. This is not about excess. It’s about atmosphere, emotion, and the long shadow that lingers after the final note.

Evig Natt is:
Kirsten Jørgensen: Vocals
Stein Sund: Vocals and bass
Arne Marton Tangjerd: Guitar
Ruben Osnes: Guitar
Tom Andre Enge: Drums
