Bullet For My Valentine – Gravity

/ / By :

Gravity. A really good way to summarize this album in one word. Gravity keeps you with both feet on the ground. It can feel really heavy, yet it can also feel like you can fly. Some people like to stay in the middle. Others like to explore the edges on both sides. With this album, you will definitely hear both sides. You will hear parts that you are used to from Bullet For My Valentine, but you will also hear parts that are heavier, and on the other side, parts that are calmer. Yet the calm can be heavy.

The album starts of with ‘Leap of Faith’. A song about the feeling when you come to the point when you’re just done. Done with everything. You just take one more step and hope that that step will release you from everything.

’Release the pressure’. ‘Jump into the Fire’.

Over It’, one of the singles and a heavier song, with really nice breakdowns and awesome drumming by Michael Thomas. Also a song about you trying to help a person, but that person just seems to neglect the help you want to give them to a point where you just don’t care anymore.

Letting You Go’ is definitely a song in a ‘newer’ style. A different style that Bullet For My Valentine decided to make their own. And it really suits them. It starts of calm, then full power, then back to calm and so on. This gives the message of the song a lot of extra power. Combined with the vocals of Matt Tuck, this song is simply awesome. Add some flanger effect, and you have a more futuristic heavy metal sounding song.

‘First you wanna hate me, then you wanna love me’.

This line also symbolizes the way the song sounds, or the other way around. Either way, this song just fits perfect into place on many levels.

The Very Last Time’ is a song that will definitely surprise you. A tone in the background that seems to be played in reverse. A weird feeling covers the notes. Hairs on your arms raise. Your brain connects to your body and you experience a Bullet For My Valentine that you’ve never heard before. Definitely listen to this song. It has a huge role in making this album sound the way it does. Another song to list under this specific tune is ‘Under Again’.

Gravity’: ‘Built me up to tear me down. Been here many times before. Screaming just to be ignored. It feels like I’m broken, but I know it’ll be alright. You’re the gravity that keeps pulling me down’.

This is an album that’s really clear for some reason. All the vocals sound like they are directly spoken into you your ear. Or screamed into your ear. It’s either one side or the other. Yet it can be very hard to decide which side you choose. Or, you can end up in the middle. This might sound weird if you’re reading this, but it’ll make sense once you’ve listened to the album and took it to your heart.

Like Matt said in an interview with Loud TV: ‘Sometimes the simple things aren’t that easy’. This album is about what happend in Matt’s life in the past 2 years. It’s a very emotional album. The album also doesn’t have any solo’s. Something I didn’t really notice strangely enough. It was only when I started reading youtube comments on video’s about ‘Gravity’ that I noticed it. Once again, it’s a very emotional album. Listen to all the emotions and let it get to your hart. You will not regret it.

Simply amazing. Leaves me in silence. Especially after hearing the last song of the album: ‘Breathing Underwater’. Everything seems so certain. Yet nothing is.
