Avulsed unleashes new lyric video and opens pre-orders for 'Phoenix Cryptobiosis' • GRIMM Gent

Legendary Spanish death metal veterans AVULSED have dropped a new lyric video for “Blood Monolith”, the second single from their highly anticipated eighth studio album, “Phoenix Cryptobiosis”, set for release on March 4, 2025, via Xtreem Music on CD, vinyl (12” LP), cassette, and digital formats.

After more than three decades of relentless devotion to death metal, AVULSED returns with their first album of original material in 12 years. “Phoenix Cryptobiosis” captures the band’s signature brutality while introducing fresh energy with contributions from the new lineup, following a significant lineup change in recent years.

Formed in 1991 by Dave Rotten, AVULSED has remained a pillar of the death metal scene for over 30 years. Following a major lineup change, Dave Rotten and drummer Santiago Arroyo “GoG” continue to lead the band alongside new members Alejandro Lobo (guitar), Alex Nihil (bass), and Victor Dws (guitar). This new lineup has breathed fresh life into the band’s songwriting while staying true to AVULSED’s signature uncompromising brutality.

The album was recorded between September and October, mixed at Acórdica Studios (owned by guitarist Alejandro Lobo), and mastered at MK2 Studio (Italy) by Davide Billia (Beheaded, Antropofagus, ex-Hour of Penance, ex-Putridity, ex-Septycal Gorge). The album artwork was once again created by Daemorph Art, capturing the rebirth of AVULSED in a striking visual concept.

According to Dave Rotten:

“The title of the album had been in discussion for years with the word ‘Cryptobiosis’, and in a way, it has turned out to be prophetic. Cryptobiosis refers to a suspended state of metabolic processes in extreme conditions, much like AVULSED has been for years. Now, with the perfect conditions in place, we are re-emerging like a phoenix—unleashed, furious, and more powerful than ever.”
