Djerv releases music video for their international success single ‘Rebel Heart’

Alternative Metal, Alternative Rock, Hard Rock

Last fall, DJERV released the song “Rebel Heart” as part of the official soundtrack for Season 2 of the critically acclaimed Netflix series ARCANE. What happens when Norwegian Hard Rock collides with one of the world’s most iconic series? The answer is «Rebel Heart» – the track by DJERV created magic in a pivotal and emotional scene in Arcane, the that topped global charts and captivated millions.

The series is based on the League of Legends game universe, one of the world’s biggest video games. “Rebel Heart” marks DJERV‘s second collaboration with League of Legends, following the hit song “Get Jinxed” from 2014. The band has received massive international attention for Rebel Heart, and the song has been streamed over 18 million times! Now the long-awaited music video, produced by Helmet, is finally here.

Erlend Gjerde shares details about the filming process:

“The video was shot in an equestrian hall in Trondheim. It was two long and insanely cold days, especially for Agnete, who was covered in wet clay for most of the shoot. Helmet arranged for heating tents and everything, but it was still cold AS F%#.”

The video’s setting is a dark and dusty landscape, which eventually erupts into intense flashes of red and green lights. The typography and architecture are inspired by Arcane, with multiple nods to the universe.

Vocalist Agnete Kjølsrud has also been inspired by creating music for the game, the series and not least the character Jinx. She says:

“It´s wonderful to feel the presence of Jinx again! I feel like I´m holding her hand in Rebel Heart. A hidden part of me is totally uncompromising, and in this song I feel a kind of freedom, even though the sadness is imminent.”

Erlend continues:

“We wanted to convey a lot of energy and intensity while reflecting ‘Arcane’ and the League of Legends universe that the song is tied to. It feels great to finally release a proper video, even though the single came out a little while ago. A single release doesn’t feel truly complete until the music video is out as well, so we’re excited to share it with the world! DJERV made their international breakthrough in the rock and metal scene in 2011 with their self-titled debut album, which received rave reviews from Metal Hammer UK and Sweden Rock Magazine. Metal Hammer UK wrote: “Agnete Kjølsrud is the star of the show – her vocals could strip paint off your dad’s car!”

With their energetic sound and hits like “Headstone” and “Madman”, they quickly established themselves as one of Norway’s most exciting new bands, climbing the charts and earning a reputation for electrifying live performances. In 2014, DJERV expanded into the gaming world with the viral hit “Get Jinxed” for League of Legends, which helped define the now-iconic character Jinx (also known as Powder). The song has since garnered over 130 million views on YouTube and 100 million streams on Spotify. Last fall, DJERV collaborated with Riot Games once again for Arcane’s second season. DJERV’s “Rebel Heart” is featured on the official soundtrack for Arcane Season 2, alongside contributions from globally renowned artists such as Stray Kids, Tom Morello, Mike Shinoda & Emily Armstrong, Twenty One Pilots, Imagine Dragons, Ashnikko, Marcus King, Young Miko, Woodkid, and Stromae.
