GÅTE sign to Season of Mist and release new single ‘Sannsiger’ featuring Maria Franz of Heilung

Folk, Nordic Folk, Pagan Folk

GÅTE, a Norwegian band working at the intersection of Nordic folk tradition and contemporary rock, have signed to Season of Mist and released “Sannsiger”, the first single from their forthcoming sixth studio album, due in October 2026. The single is accompanied by an official music video directed by Maja Holand.

“Sannsiger” draws on the figure of the sannsiger—an archetype found across folklore and oral traditions, understood as one who interprets signs, visions, and divine messages to perceive what lies ahead. Within the song, the figure also stands for those who speak uncomfortable truths, voices that have historically been silenced or punished for challenging what others wish to conceal. Musically, the track weaves Hardanger fiddle and nyckelharpa into the band’s contemporary sound, building an expression shaped by repetition, tension, and ritual movement.

Gåte formed in the early 2000s, with their 2002 debut entering the Norwegian Albums chart at number one and earning them the Spellemann Award for Best Newcomer. Following two further albums, the band took a hiatus before returning in 2017 to critical acclaim and sold-out performances. They represented Norway at the 2024 Eurovision Song Contest and toured Europe in 2025 with Leprous. Their signing to Season of Mist marks their most internationally focused chapter to date, with extensive touring beyond the Nordic region planned around the album’s release.

“Sannsiger” was produced by Kristian Fanavoll Tvedt and Magnus Børmark. The track was recorded at Kulturlåven and Øra Studio, both in Trondheim, Norway. It was mixed and mastered by Jacob Hansen.

The first single, “Sannsiger”, is now available to stream. The accompanying music video is live on the Season of Mist YouTube channel. Physical and digital formats for the forthcoming album are to be announced.

“Signing with Season of Mist reflects a shared ambition to work without compromise and with a long-term vision for reaching an international audience”, Gåte says. “The title of our  new single, ‘Sannsiger’, is a figure who is found in folklore and belief systems across cultures. They are understood as someone who interprets signs, visions and divine messages, in order to foresee what lies ahead. Within the context of this song, they also represent those who dare to speak uncomfortable truths. Throughout history, and still today, such voices have often been silenced, punished or attacked for challenging what others wish to keep hidden”.

“‘Sannsiger’ hit me from the very first moment that I heard it”, Heilung vocalist Maria Franz says. “The song’s raw energy immediately resonated with me. I’ve been a fan of Gåte for many years, so accepting the invitation was a no-brainer. The band were wonderful to work with, and I’m very excited to hear the rest of their upcoming album”.

In anticipation of their upcoming new album, today, Gåte are also announcing a fall headline tour. The tour will bring the band to nine cities across Norway, plus one date in Istanbul, Turkey. During this ten date run, they will perform “Sannsiger”, along with other new songs and fan favorites from their celebrated discography.

Rooted in the intersection of Nordic folk tradition and contemporary rock, Norwegian band GÅTE have spent over two decades developing a sound that feels both ancient and fiercely present. Drawing on centuries-old ballads, oral traditions, and traditional vocal forms, the band transform these sources into music that is physical, emotionally direct, and unmistakably their own.

Emerging in the early 2000s, GÅTE became one of Norway’s most distinctive bands. After a twelve-year hiatus, the band returned in 2017 and have since built on their strong position at home while gradually expanding their presence beyond Norway. Rather than treating tradition as a fixed reference, GÅTE approach it as a living force.

Old material is not preserved for its own sake, but reworked and re-contextualized, allowing it to resonate with contemporary urgency and relevance. Their concerts are immersive and intense, balancing raw energy with a ritual-like focus that has earned them a growing reputation on international stages.

The band’s new studio album is set for full release in October 2026 via Season of Mist.
