Theogonia Records signs progressive groove metal band Oria

Groove Metal, Progressive Metal

Theogonia Records is proud to announce the signing of progressive groove metal powerhouse ORIA from Thessaloniki, Greece. Known for their ferocious intensity, cinematic moments, and deeply introspective storytelling, ORIA is set to unleash their sophomore album, This Future Wants Us Dead, on April 25, 2025. The album will be available worldwide as a stunning CD digipack and in digital formats.

ORIA made their mark with their 2020 debut, Sublimation(s), an album that firmly established them as one of Greece’s most compelling rising metal acts. Building on that foundation, the band has taken their craft to exhilarating new heights. Their latest opus, This Future Wants Us Dead, is a conceptual masterpiece that intertwines relentless riffs, intricate rhythms, and haunting melodies, offering an unflinching exploration of humanity’s precarious future.

Set in a dystopian world teetering on the brink of collapse, This Future Wants Us Dead examines the ethical dilemmas surrounding technological progress, environmental degradation, and social isolation. Yet, amidst its apocalyptic themes, the album provides a glimmer of hope—a reminder of humanity’s capacity for redemption and resilience. From crushing grooves to moments of delicate introspection, ORIA’s soundscape mirrors the tension and beauty of the narrative, delivering a listening experience that is as thought-provoking as it is visceral.

The album’s production reflects the band’s dedication to quality and artistic vision. It was recorded by Nick Grey at Red House Music Studio in Thessaloniki, with meticulous drum editing handled by Defkalion Dimos. Mixing and mastering were expertly crafted by Steve Lado at SL Studios in Athens, ensuring a sonic experience that is both crushingly heavy and stunningly precise. Completing the vision, the haunting cover artwork and graphic editing were created by Nasia Stylidou, also known as Decomposition, whose visual style perfectly encapsulates the album’s dystopian themes.

ORIA shared their thoughts on This Future Wants Us Dead:

“Its story unfolds through each track, delving into humanity’s precarious relationship with technology and progress, resonating deeply with the anxieties of our modern world. Exploring themes of domination, exploitation of both humans and nature, artificial intelligence, environmental collapse, social isolation, and personal redemption, This Future Wants Us Dead offers a raw, unflinching reflection on the forces shaping our present and the futures we risk creating.”

Speaking about the signing, Theogonia Records stated:

“ORIA embodies everything we value as a label—passion, creativity, and a commitment to pushing the boundaries of metal. This Future Wants Us Dead is a bold, devastatingly relevant album that challenges listeners both musically and thematically. We couldn’t be more excited to share their vision with the world.”

Influenced by the progressive intensity of bands like Gojira, Mastodon, and Lamb of God, ORIA’s music takes listeners on a sonic journey, melding the heaviness of groove metal with the technical intricacy and storytelling depth of progressive metal. This Future Wants Us Dead is poised to resonate with fans who seek not just headbanging riffs but also music that challenges and inspires.
