A Loud Farewell: Friday Night’s Concert at Black Hawks MC’s Chopper Show Weekend in Hamme

Last Friday, we headed to Hamme for the kick-off evening of the Black Hawks MC’s Choppershow weekend, drawn not by the bikes — which were only on display Sunday — but by the live music lineup planned for Friday night. The evening started off with a solid set by Poseydon, warming up the crowd. But the band we were most eager to see was Hexa Mera, who took the stage next.

Back in November 2024, the band announced they’d be going on an “indefinite hiatus” after 15 years of activity. While they haven’t ruled out a return someday, it’s clear that for now, Hexa Mera is stepping away from the stage for the foreseeable future. Hexa Mera holds a special place in our hearts — they’ve been a regular guest at our bar & venue Asgaard, performing there almost annually. Their connection with us runs deep, and that made Friday’s show all the more emotional.

We had hoped to book them for one last show at Asgaard as a send-off, but we were just a bit too late — their schedule was already closed. That didn’t stop us from enjoying every second of their powerful, emotionally charged set on Friday though.

Closing the night was Impact, a seasoned cover band that kept spirits high and bodies moving. But for us, the highlight — and bittersweet heart of the evening — was clearly Hexa Mera. Their departure will leave a noticeable gap in the Belgian metal scene, and maybe an even bigger one in our community.

If this was indeed the last time we’d see them live for a while, it was a damn good way to go out.

For those who missed it: there’s one last chance to see them. They will play their last set at Peiroanfest in Mol (BE), on Friday, October 10th.

Last but not least of course, a big thank you to our friends at the Black Hawk motor club for welcoming us!
