German black metal band WALDGEFLÜSTER to release “Dahoam”

Black Metal, News

Germany’s revered underground black metal band WALDGEFLÜSTER will release their awaited 6th full-length album, “Dahoam” (English: “Back Home”), on September 24th with their new label AOP Records. The band has revealed the record’s first new single, “Im Ebersberger Forst” (English: “In the Ebersberger Forest”), which is streaming everywhere and an accompanying lyric video can be viewed below.

After exploring the concept of wilderness on their 2011 acclaimed record “Femundsmarka,” WALDGEFLÜSTER‘s non-consecutive, visionary followup, “Dahoam,” takes listeners on an introspective journey home with raw, emotionally charged post-black metal soundscapes.

Commenting on the new album, the band states:

“Belonging, identity, exclusion, otherization. What is home and who gets to call it that? Why is something considered typical or local and how can we make a place our own? 10 years after exploring some inner truths, peace and strength in the wilderness of ‘Femundsmarka,’ it is now time to take a close look at the place we call “home” and try to find some universal truths about it. Rooted in the landscapes of Upper Bavaria, written in its tongue, those seven songs of “Dahoam” (“Back home”) can barely put in words what home truly is or what human beings dare to make of it. Yet despite all the darkness that comes with it – there still is this sense of belonging once we see the Wendelstein in the distance. The concept of home, the contradictions and inner conflict that come with it is what “Dahoam” tries to explore.“

Founded in 2005, WALDGEFLÜSTER (English: Forest Whisperings) has become critically known and beloved by fans for their reflective and engaging topics of nature and humanity that are brought to life with a melancholic and melodic style of atmospheric post-black metal that recalls the likes of Ulver, Panopticon, Wolves in the Throne Room and Falls of Rauros. Originally conceived as a solo project by founding vocalist, multi-instrumentalist Winterherz, the line-up was expanded in 2014 following the release of “Meine Fesseln,” with Thomas Birkmaier (drums), Dominik Frank (guitar), Markus Frey (guitar) and Avagr (bass) all contributing to subsequent releases, including a split with Panopticon and lauded albums “Ruinen” and “Mondscheinsonaten.”

Over the years WALDGEFLÜSTER has performed shows throughout Europe and the world, including highlights such as the Summer Breeze and Ragnarök Festivals, a festival by Hammerheart Brewing Company in the US and a tour through Europe in Spring 2018 with Angantyr and Ereb Altor. In 2021, WALDGEFLÜSTER joined the highly acclaimed roster of AOP Records, who will release of their 6th full length record, “Dahoam.”
