Aara unveiled album details and new song

Atmospheric Black Metal, Black Metal

Crowning their tripartite interpretation of 19th century Gothic novel “Melmoth The Wanderer” by Charles Robert Maturin, AARA present the concluding part of the Triade trilogy to be released via Debemur Morti Productions on March 31st. “Triade III: Nyx” is a succinctly elegant display of power and class, a paring down, tightening-up and condensation of the forceful yet nimble Black Metal style the band are renowned for. The Swiss group breathes life into the book’s last chapters over six mesmerizing tracks:

01. Heimgesucht
02. Emphase der Seelenpein
03. Moribunda
04. Unstern
05. Des Wanderers Traum
06. Edo et Edam

The album was recorded, mixed and mastered at Chäuer Studios Bärn. The cover artwork was painted by the esteemed Michael Handt and Johnny Warren (MODERN RITES) created – as for all albums in the Melmoth trilogy – the intro to the opening track.

As the title suggests, “Triade III: Nyx” deals with death, darkness, and night as the tale of Melmoth reaches its irrevocable end. Vocalist and lyricist Fluss narrates:

“‘Nyx’ stands for the end, and darkness… with the stories of the protagonists coming to a conclusion. Melmoth’s lover ends up in the dungeons of the Inquisition and dies of her grief after the death of the child conceived with Melmoth. But despite all the suffering of the people, Melmoth cannot convince anyone to share the lot of immortality for his soul, and so his time runs out and his existence on earth must end.“

Composer Berg adds regarding the musical dimensions:

“The sound of “Triade II: Hemera” was wilder and more chaotic, which also had to do with the numerous riff changes. This time, we purposefully slowed down the chaos to give the melodies and riffs more room. For me, the mystical and fascinating side of the night lies in its calmness, clarity, and emptiness, which gives space for thoughts while having also stimulated peoples’ imaginations for thousands of years. This contributes a lot to the fact that many people perceive the night as something eerie, especially when they are in nature. “Triade III: Nyx” is maybe not an album that is suitable to be played at a party, but rather a place that you should visit alone.“

As a gateway into the last chapters of “Melmoth The Wanderer“, AARA unveil the second song from the forthcoming album – ‘Emphase der Seelenpein‘ – which emanates a mysteriously sinister atmosphere elevated by melancholic, playful and majestic moments.

Berg comments:

“The songs were written in the order they appear on the album. Choosing which track to unveil first is often difficult because we do not want to use the first or last track. The beginning or the end of a long player should not be known beforehand. At the same time, the song should be a summary of what the listener can expect on the album, and that is what ‘Emphase der Seelenpein‘ does. It is probably also the most traditional AARA song on “Triade III: Nyx“. Because it is such a classic song, it was written quickly and intuitively!“

“Triade III: Nax” will be released on CD, vinyl and digital, along with band merchandising, via Debemur Morti Productions on March 31st.

In conjunction with the forthcoming album, AARA‘s latest 2-track digital EP, “Phthonos” (released in October 2022) will be issued in a 7″ vinyl format on March 10th. Find more info about this release here!

Pre-orders for all items will begin on February 3rd.

Switzerland’s AARA was founded in 2018 by vocalist Fluss and multi-instrumentalist Berg to create art highly influenced by atmospheric Black Metal. Sporting an epic, classical feel, their sweeping compositions aim to take the listener through the darkest alleys of human existence.

Soon after releasing their debut record “So fallen alle Tempel” in early 2019, AARA joined forces with Debemur Morti Productions, releasing their mosaic EP “Anthropozän” that same year.

Barely a year after their debut, AARA unveiled a new full-length record in April of 2020. A conceptual look into Europe’s Age of Enlightenment, “En Ergô Einai” sees AARA take their accomplished sound to new heights of mature artistic expression. Opened with a haunting acoustic intro courtesy of Vindsval (BLUT AUS NORD), “En Ergô Einai” is a triumph of fluid melodic euphoria and classical elegance, setting an even higher watermark in a bright, young discography. The third album and beginning of a trilogy, namely “Triade I: Eos“, was released in March 2021. In this epic and dramatic new work of art, AARA are interpreting the Gothic novel “Melmoth The Wanderer” (1820) of Irish writer Charles Robert Maturin.

Venturing forth into the next chapters of Maturin’s work, AARA crafted the second part of their trilogy, “Triade II: Hemera“. The six tracks of brutally melodic, top-tier Black Metal was released in May 2022. The third and final album of the Melmoth trilogy will see the light of day on March 31st, 2023.
