Brazilian death metal force Crypta reveal new single 'A Portrait of Decay' • GRIMM Gent

World-renowned Brazilian death metal force CRYPTA enter a new era with “A Portrait of Decay,” the first track to showcase the band’s new lineup and offer a glimpse into what fans can expect from their future sound. After announcing Victoria Villarreal as their new permanent guitarist in April this year, completing the four-piece lineup alongside Fernanda Lira (bass, vocals), Luana Dametto (drums), and Tainá Bergamaschi (guitar), the band now unleashes this brandnew track, building anticipation for CRYPTA‘s next chapter. “A Portrait of Decay” hits like an aggressive death metal steamroller while exploring dissociation as a means of enduring pain and suffering.

The track was recorded in Belgium in June this year and engineered, mixed, and mastered by Yarne Heylen at Project Zero Studio. The artwork was created by Brazilian artist Marcos Miller. “A Portrait of Decay” is out now worldwide on all major streaming platforms and as a strictly limited 7″ vinyl release.

All of this is brought to life by an intensely aggressive yet atmospheric and melancholic instrumental attack, paired with the spine-tingling vocals of Fernanda Lira, one of the most outstanding artists in today’s extreme metal scene. The track arrives just in time for CRYPTA to kick off their North American tour with Arch Enemy, The Black Dahlia Murder, Septicflesh, and Thrown Into Exile, beginning on October 5 in Riverside, CA.

“A Portrait of Decay” is accompanied by an official music video that, at first glance, may seem unfamiliar compared to the song’s sonic intensity. The script for the video was written by CRYPTA‘s drummer Luana Dametto.

Luana states:

“The video clip is both an almost poetic contrast to the harsh death metal sound but also a cinematic depiction of the lyrics: An ethereal and almost dream-like landscape that represents someone’s true state of being, clear thoughts and and light emotions, that slowly dissipate with the passing of time and changing of surroundings, and with the night and a much darker environment, after a while, feelings of being adrift and astray arise, showing that our conditions and time can directly change the way we see ourselves and the way we feel and interact.”

Formed in 2019 by former NERVOSA members Luana Dametto and Fernanda Lira, and now featuring guitarists Tainá Bergamaschi and Victoria Villarreal, CRYPTA released their latest album, Shades of Sorrow, in August 2023, blending classic and modern death metal with elements of extreme and black metal. After numerous shows and festival appearances around the globe throughout the album cycle, their latest shows marked a farewell to the Shades of Sorrow era and paved the way for new music — stay tuned for more!
