FANGZ release new single and music video ‘Falling Is Pretty Normal’

News, Punk

Sydney-based punk quartet FANGZ have today revealed their new single and music video “Falling Is Pretty Normal”, the title track and final single from their third studio EP – produced by Stevie Knight (Yours Truly, Stand Atlantic, The Dead Love) and mixed by James Paul Wisner (Paramore, Underoath). Beginning with viscous guitars and a snare roll crescendo, the song is a thundering release of cathartic energy, highlighted by the band’s melodic aptitudes.

Alongside the single is the nostalgic accompanying video – filmed, directed, and edited by Rhys Bennett of High Voltage Photography – that pays homage to the blink-182 classic “What’s My Age Again?”. The video features the band members performing their new single and running naked around various locations in Sydney’s Inner West. With eccentric hilarity and multiple cameos, the buoyant video contrasts the song’s heavier themes.

‘”Falling Is Pretty Normal’ was written just after I lost someone close to me,” says vocalist Joshua Cottreau on the new track. “I wasn’t coping at all, and I found myself spiraling without even realizing. I would have these vivid dreams in which the departed would be there and it’d feel so real. In that moment I’d be happy. Then my alarm would sound, and reality would hit me like a ton of bricks. It’s about learning to deal with loss and knowing that the person may be gone but the lessons they taught you still live on as long as you remember.”

FANGZ is a Sydney-based four-piece punk rock band that write songs with the sole purpose of getting people to party and attempt backflips in mosh pits. The band started their journey with a four-week sold out residency in Sydney’s inner-west, with lines of punters spilling out onto the street trying to get into the venue.

The lads went on to release their debut EP For Nothing in July 2019. The EP was met with critical acclaim and from there, the party punks hit the road and didn’t stop. FANGZ then found themselves joining childhood heroes Gyroscope on a national Australian tour followed by a run with local riff lords Bare Bones. To top the year off, FANGZ landed support slots with two of their biggest influences in Cancer Bats and Comeback Kid. The band also had multiple tours confirmed (including a run of Japan), however due to COVID-19, all live plans were put on hold.

FANGZ’ second EP But No Thanks was released in July 2020 and was produced by Stevie Knight and mixed by James Paul Wisner. In October 2020, the band announced their own line of hot sauce ‘Fang us Some Sauce’ and a headlining show to launch it. The 250-capacity show sold out within weeks with little promotion, marking the most number of tickets moved by the group during their career, all without a new release and amid a global pandemic. Their four singles released in 2021 – “Self Medicate”, “Prove Me Wrong”, “I Don’t Like Me” and “Won’t Be Me” – have been extensively supported by global radio, blogs and DSP’s. The band has now released the final and title track of their third studio EP “Falling Is Pretty Normal” and will head off on a 10-date Australian tour from February till May.
