Wednesday 13 is celebrating the release of this 10th studio album, ‘Mid Death Crisis’ via Napalm Records. We had the privilege of sitting down via Zoom with Duke of Spook himself to chat about the new album and going back to the roots of the horror punk style of Wednesday 13

Starting the interview I was greeted by a very calm and kind gentleman with big sunglasses chilling in his tourbus, I was the last interview of the day for him and we got ready to talk about everything going on with this new release. Mr. Wednesday 13 starts expressing how excited and proud he is about the new album, reflecting how he still has that same passion and excitement towards a new release as he had 20 years ago releasing his debut album. ‘Mid Death Crisis’ marks the 10th studio release from Wednesday so to quote Duke of Spook he said

The first album (Transylvania 90201) was just the blueprint in my mind.  I had a good time making that record. So to go back and write this new album, 10 albums in to go, where do you start? I went, well, the beginning. That was where I had the most fun. ”.

With this new album he says he wants to give the fans something most have been waiting for a while, to go back to that mid 2000s era of Wednesday 13, quote

I wonder if I can make a record that will resonate with my fans as good as the first album. Can I give them enough good songs and remind them of the first album? And I think this is as close as I could get this time. I tried my hardest to deliver something like that without repeating the same album. So I’m happy with it.

We touched on the very interesting feature on the song ” No Apologies ” with Taime Downe from Faster Pussycat. Which Wednesday 13 stated happened very quickly by just making a phone call to an old friend, and they made it happen. He talks how big of an influence Taime Downe has been to Wednesday from the hair to even sunglasses, so this is clearly a very natural collab from these heavy rockers.

We touched on the subject how Wednesday 13 is in the best shape of his life, even now pushing 50 years old, which Wednesday 13 attributes to keeping his health in check nowadays and quitting alcohol, quote

I used to go on stage with that rock and roll lifestyle that I read all my heroes did. I was just doing what I thought you supposed to do in a rock band. Sex, drugs and rock n roll, you know,  I didn’t know that would catch up with you. So now I’m not doing that and I’m able to focus on just being better. As I’ve gotten older, I can control what I do better. I can sing better. I can perform better. It’s amazing what you can do on stage if you don’t drink a half a bottle of Jack Daniels. ”

We also talk on Wednesday‘s favorite subject, horror films and how much he and his music has been influenced by different movies, doing a very successful tour playing Murderdolls classics, his memories opening for Iron Maiden and how people threw garbage on them every night, how one Murderdolls show opening for Iron Maiden in Helsinki, Finland was a success – at least for one song – when Andy McCoy stepped on stage, reminiscing about Joey Jordison, how Joey still affects Wednesday 13 when writing songs and much much more!
