Preview Durbuy Rock 2017

/ By :

On the 7th and 8th of April, Wallonia’s biggest metal/hardcore event will open its gates again! Durbuy Rock spoils us with 24 top notch Belgian and international bands and that is something we’re really looking forward to at GRIMM!

Location

The 21st edition of the festival will take place in the charming village of Bomal-sur-Ourthe, which is just a stone’s throw away from the medieval city of Durbuy.  The festival site is easily accessible by car since it’s located between the highways E25, N4 and N63. You can also reach the site by public transport if you take the train to Bomal-sur-Ourthe’s train station. From there, you only have to walk another 300 meters.

Accomodation

The camping site is available for those who own a ticket or festival pass and a camping pass (€5 for one day). Camping passes can be purchased at arrival. The camping site will open on Friday at 15h and will close on Sunday at 12h. Apart from the camping site, there’s also the possibility to visit the metal market to draw back and relax. This year, the festival offers local products like artisan beer, which is a nice extra for the Burgundians among us. Durbuy Rock asks its visitors to respect the environment and to sort out their garbage in the waste container near the entrance.

Bands

Most importantly, there are many great bands playing at this edition! The first day of the festival is dedicated to female fronted bands like Lacuna Coil, Delain and headliner Arch Enemy. The melodic death metal super stars Arch Enemy recently shot out a DVD of their most recent Wacken appearance; As The Stages Burn. Durbuy Rock doesn’t have the same technical effects as  the gigantic Wacken stages but it does offer the opportunity to check this band out in a more intimate environment, which largely compensates. Thrash metal will also be present at this party. The Haunted, Sodom and our fellow countrymen Evil Invaders will most certainly make the temperature rise!

The second day will be a mix of folk/metal and punk/hardcore. Durbuy Rock Festival welcomes the New York hardcore legends of Sick Of It All who are currently celebrating their 30th anniversary. Many great Belgian bands will be playing this day. The Liège-based Surge Of Fury for example will just as well celebrate their 20th anniversary. There’s also the punk folk band The Black Tartan Clan that serves as a great transition between the different genres. Saturday’s headliners/folk metal titans Finntroll and Ensiferum will visit the festival for the very first time. Both are known for their overwhelming stage energy. We don’t want to miss these parties!
