Sleep Token drops new offering ‘Damocles’ from upcoming album

, ,

With only two weeks to go until the release of his long-awaited new studio album ‘Even In Arcadia’ (on Friday 9 May worldwide via RCA Records/Sony Music Entertainment), the much-discussed London mystery company Sleep Token released its new (third) offering ‘Damocles‘, which once again heats up the minds of fans and media.

The long-awaited first single ‘Emergence‘ released last month instantly caused a lot of excitement, which was further fueled with the following track ‘Caramel‘ on which pop and metal merge organically, creating a unique blend of tender beauty and relentless power. Also on ‘Damocles‘ the enigmatic Sleep Token does not choose the easiest way out and surprises musically again.

The song delves into the quiet unraveling beneath the surface, where grandeur fades and unspoken battles take center stage. With a distinctive blend of mysticism and vulnerability, ‘Damocles‘ captures the burden of invisible struggle and the haunting echo of past glory, inviting listeners to explore what lies beneath the mask.

The elusive mysterious Sleep Token was founded in 2016, according to his own lore, when frontman Vessel received a message from the spiritual entity Sleep one night in his dream, who is honored in songs such as ‘Chokehold‘, ‘The Summoning‘ and ‘The Offering‘. Sleep Token has released three studio albums to date: ‘Sundowning‘ (2019), ‘This Place Will Become Your Tomb‘ (2021), and ‘Take Me Back to Eden‘ (2023).

Musically, the anonymous band – which presents itself as a kind of cult that worships supreme being Sleep and dresses itself in dark robes, painted faces and terrifying masks – offers a stylistically unique amalgam of pop, hip-hop, electronica, post rock, djent, R&B, prog and (technical) metal. The band is also a real sensation live, as was evident last November, for example, in a completely sold-out AFAS Live in Amsterdam and Forest National in Brussels.
