The Medea Project unveil their upcoming album of dark secrets ‘Kharon’
Since arriving on English shores in 2017, from their South African homeland, The Medea Project have established themselves as a band with a unique identity; standing proudly astride the rifts that separate genres and subgenres and exploring the darkness that lies in the depths between. Their creativity feeds upon the shadows and they walk the borderlands, the uncertain places where nothing is ever as it seems. They conjure songs and stories for those unsatisfied by the laws of everyday existence, those who will not be spoon fed the bland gruel of accepted reality. And they are calling once again, beckoning you to follow them down the rough hewn steps to the banks of Acheron, to ride the still, stygian waters…with Kharon.

The cold, shuddering chords of ‘Absence, In Loss’ and the echoing notes of ‘The Cave Song’ draw the listener through the veils of perception, from one world to another, to the subterranean realms of Kharon. Riffs and rhythms lurch and spin like dancing shades while disorientating voices call from the black. You have entered the unknown and the journey has begun…beneath the majestic vaults of ancient stone the boatman whispers to you of sorrow and regret. Primal death metal entwines in a cold embrace with broken hearted doom, while black metal bleakness shrieks through twilight gothic dreamscapes. The elemental madness of ‘Upon Your Bones’ drags you through a maelstrom of half-seen horrors and casts you down upon your knees before the despairing lament of ‘Reborn’, where you attempt to reflect on what has befallen you and find no adequate words to harness and define the experience. The Medea Project’s invocations have become darker than ever before, their essence even more unfathomable. Follow, listen, watch and accept their ineffable gifts.
Rejecting the commonplace in visual presentation, as they do in their music, The Medea Project turned to artist Daniele Serra to create the cover artwork for Kharon. Known primarily for his work with authors Stephen King and Clive Barker and controversial black metal band Shining, Serra drew forth the perfect imagery from The Medea Project’s music. Adorned in Serra’s haunting depiction, Kharon will be released on June 20th, the date being marked by a special launch show at London’s Dingwalls 2 venue alongside My Silent Wake and The River.
