Throwing Bricks and Ontaard unveiled the collaborative track ‘Blame Pt. I’

Post-metal, Sludge Metal

Last week, a music video for “Blame Pt. I” was unveiled, the collaborative song between two of Utrecht most prominent artists, Throwing Bricks and Ontaard  and one of the songs from their forthcoming split-LP ‘Oud Zeer’.

Watch the video for “Blame Pt. I” here:

They had this to say about this new track

“Blame pt. 1′ represents the collaborative spirit of ‘Oud Zeer’. Being written together and featuring a beautiful viola played by Johanna Kouwenhoven, it is a true collaboration between both bands. ‘Blame pt. 1” depicts a childhood memory of feeling blamed after harassment and being doubted in your legitimacy as a victim. A melody getting overshadowed by harsh noise serves as a sonic metaphor for how trauma and painful memories will find a way to ruin the present.”

Titled ‘Oud Zeer’, which is a Dutch term for memories you would rather get rid of, but simply can’t, this split release was recorded and produced by Marius Prins (Throwing Bricks) at dB’s and Studio Moskou, and mastered by Tim de Gieter (Doodseskader, Amenra, Predatory Void) at Much Luv Studios, and is set to be released on April 12th on digital and cassette formats, with a vinyl release planned for late August via Tartarus Records. Pre-orders are now available at this location.

If you missed it, listen to leading single, Throwing Bricks‘ “Abandon Me” here: https://youtu.be/MVTiEYyGiU8?si=Nn83ZA_SjcjYEFqV

Releasing music together is a natural outcome of a close friendship between the two Utrecht-based groups. Even though the music is dark, it’s mainly about processing misery, rather than celebrating it. Emotional release is at the core of writing, making and sharing our music.

They say a sorrow shared, is a sorrow halved. Coincidentally, this record finds both bands reaching out to the help of friends by collaborating with other musicians and pushing their own boundaries. Artists Johanna Kouwenhoven, Clasine Haringsma (Immen) and Kim Hoorweg (Vulva) have contributed to ‘Oud Zeer’ in their own way. Besides all gloomy bleakness, this is the product of friends finding joy in heaviness.
