GRIMM’s albums of the year 2017

/ / By :

2017 has been an amazing year for everyone who likes rock, punk, metal and hardcore. It almost seemed an impossible task to select only the best albums that were released this year. That is why we let our whole editorial team pick 10 of their own favourite albums. This was the only way to compile a comprehensive list of the 50 best albums of last year. The list was of course much longer than just these 50 works of art but in the end we had the difficult choice to choose only the very best. Here you can see all of them in the right order.

1) Zeal & Ardor – Devil is Fine

To be completely honest, our top album of the year 2017 was actually released digitally in 2016. But impressing quite some people, Zeal & Ardor got signed and their debut album Devil is Fine had a physical re-release. This caused quite a few of us to discover this impressive project. You get a serving of 25 minutes of art that is a blend of black metal, Delta blues, field recordings, jazz, ring shouts, music box melodies, glitchy hip-hop beats, soul and gospel. Even more than Igorrr, they seemed to have managed to combine 2 extremes in the music world into one coherent and amazing sound. The album is without any question one of the most interesting, original and thought-provoking pieces of music art that has been released in a while, putting the dark essence of black metal and Delta blues in the blender. This album feels so pure, raw and honest that it will strike a chord with anyone who is open to new experiences and “different” music. (for the full review go here)
