Tuska unleashed the first batch of bands for the 2024 line-up and it seems they put their chips strongly on modern metal/metalcore with Bring Me The Horizon, Bloodred Hourglass, Bury Tomorrow, Make Them Suffer, Infected Rain and Fixation, proggy music with Opeth, Vola, Voyager and Riverside, and power metal with Alestorm, Angus McSix and Brothers Of Metal. And of course, festival regulars Amorphis and Stam1na belong to the party as well!

What do you think of the line-up already? Who do you hope to be added still?

What happens when you bring pirates and vikings together? A party? A disaster? Epicness?

Photo Reports

The Scottish pirates of Alestorm docked their pirate ship in Torhout, Belgium. A sold out venue was ready to party with them, fantasy power metallers Gloryhammer, the dwarves of Windrose and fellow pirates Rumahoy.

Day 1 of the rejuvenated Sauna Open Air offered a lot of fun with Michael Monroe, Negatiiviset Nuoret, Nestor, Fear of Domination, Stam1na, Eläkeläiset, Alestorm, Korpiklaani, Beast in Black, Turmion Kätilöt and Bullet For My Valentine!

Skálmöld + Alestorm = Skálstorm. Throw on top of that the cowboys of Bootyard Bandits and it results in one hell of a party night!

We knew we couldn’t miss this – sold out – Pirate Party!

Gig Reports

This night was one big party! All the bands came to deliver their part of the party and the crowd was in for a good time too. If you missed this night, Alestorm, Gloryhammer and Wind Rose are coming to Alcatraz festival in Kortrijk this summer. Rumahoy sadly won’t be seen there.

Cowboys, vikings and pirates: a night any geek/kid would drool over came to live! Alestorm, Skálmöld and Bootyard Bandits blew the roof off Nosturi!

Lists

Annet is always looking for music that takes her either on an emotional ride or gets her going on a musical party. In 2022 she found what she was looking for in the releases from bands like Kissin Dynamite, Killswitch Engage, Mantah, Alestorm, Sleeping With Sirens, Simple Plan, The Halo Effect, Electric Callboy, Avantasia and Parkway Drive!

After 2 years of nothing, Sauna Open Air is back! And how! If you haven’t checked it out yet, here are 6 very convincing reasons why you should try to go!

With 2021 being again a bit of a weird year, while looking forward to a hopefully better 2022, lets look back at some of the albums I enjoyed the most this past year.

It wasn’t all bad in 2020. Although it seemed like that sometimes. An example are these awesome albums that were released this year. The bands couldn’t tour, but I’m sure they will the first moment they can. Enjoy!

A full year of incredible releases that we are trying to cram into a list of “albums of the year”, here we go again…

Festival Reports

The very last day of Graspop 2022 was the one that fitted our reported the best with amazing shows from bands like Crossfaith, Evil Invaders, Alestorm, Alice Cooper, The Offspring, Deep Purple and Sabaton. What a way to wrap up this event that everyone had been looking forward to so much!

When you’re a fan of Sabaton or just a huge sucker for heavy, power, symphonic and folk metal, Sabaton Open Air might be the place to be for you!

Lokerse feesten is a relatively small festival of about 15.000 people that offers big bands. Long story short, it’s a nice, cheaper festival that takes place only in the evening.

Wacken 2018 was definitely a shiner of an edition! Go have a look at our experiences and see you next year!

It’s oh so quiet, it’s oh so hot…! This year’s edition was one of heat, historical events and many records!

Album Reviews

Alestorm sets sail for the seventh time on ‘Seventh Rum of a Seventh Rum’: creativity and pirates at their best! Out on Napalm Records.

What makes this show so awesome, is how much the crowd interacts with the band. You hear Christopher Bowes sing just as loud without a mic, you hear the crowd in the background. Amazing.

With this album I found myself distracted. I like the songs. They definitely scream party but they lack the power of pirate metal. It is still Alestorm, but not as loud and rough as we are used to.

Night Demon

Night Demon doubles the fun, while Darkness Remains!

The ship has docked and Alestorm has returned! So fill your tankards and tag along for some mighty pirate adventures, for there is no grave but the sea!
