Swedish progressive metalcore project VEMØD shares new single 'Fragile Threads' • GRIMM Gent

VEMØD, the Swedish progressive metalcore project of Jonathan Thorpenberg continues the album campaign with the second single ‘Fragile Threads’ from the upcoming debut album. The song reveals a more personal side of Jonathan Thorpenberg’s songwriting, exploring the feeling of holding on even as everything starts to fall apart. Musically, Jonathan wanted to challenge traditional song structures and open the track with the chorus immediately, inspired by Architects’ “Elegy”.

“Fragile Threads” is the second chapter leading towards VEMØD’s debut album, out later this year. The album was written, recorded, and produced entirely by Jonathan Thorpenberg at Welfare Studios in Gothenburg. It features Christopher Kristensen of Dead by April on “Obsolete” and Joel Holmqvist of Aviana on the title track.

There is a specific kind of darkness that VEMØD keeps returning to – the word itself is Scandinavian for melancholy and longing. Jonathan Thorpenberg, singer, guitarist, and producer behind the project, has been mapping that interior landscape in progressive metalcore since the debut EP in 2023, writing, recording, and producing everything himself at Welfare Studios in Gothenburg.

Demons Within arrived in 2023. Five tracks about the mind turning against itself, built around clean vocals rather than the riff. Thorpenberg had always written guitar-first, and this was the first time he put the voice at the center of everything. The sound reached from progressive structures to pop-influenced arrangements. The lead track has surpassed one million streams on Spotify.

Burden followed in March 2025 and pushed further inward. More grounded than what came before it and less genre-restless, the band’s signature sound started to take shape for the first time. A man who cannot recognize himself in the mirror. A cynic who knows he is part of the problem. The title track sits with the weight of being yourself.

The first glimpse of the upcoming debut album arrived with “Neon God” in July 2026. Inspired by the image of the “neon god” from Simon & Garfunkel’s “The Sound of Silence”, the song reimagines the idea of worship in a world shaped by smartphones, algorithms, and constant digital connection.
