A couple of friends of the site are bringing something quite new to Finland with Ankea Festival, to take place next summer in Tampere, giving a space for music that isn’t as much represented at festivals overall with a focus on alternative rock and progressive metal! The first dozen of names confirmed is already pretty impressive with Ihsahn, God Is An Astronaut, Oranssi Pazuzu, Kaelan Mikla, Green Carnation, Circle, A.A. Johanna Iivanainen’s & Johanna Kurkela’s Altamullan Road is certainly worth checking out. Fullsteam Agency gave us the opportunity to see their show at Tampere’s Pakkahuone on Valentine’s Day and if you have a chance to experience their blend of cinematic, folk, and pop music yourself I highly recommend doing so.
Avatar dropped by the legendary Helsinki venue Tavastia on their “The Great Metal Circus 2024” tour, bringing their visual spectacle and theatrics properly to Finland. With them they brought the US metallers of Æther Realm, really blowing up the night!
In honour of their latest album, Everwave played a “big band” show at Tampere’s Hönö Baari last weekend together with Golden Rot and Paha kurki.
Last week, Cyhra, together with NeonFly, started off their short Finland tour at Tampere’s YO-Talo with a blast of a show organised by Nem Agency.
The Nordic weeks in Rock over Germany have been going on. Just a week after a fabulous BEAST IN BLACK tour stop in Stuttgart, another headliner from Finland’s power-metal top-notch acts conquered another concert venue in town with a show deluxe: BATTLE BEAST on their ‘Circus Of Doom Over Europe Tour 2024’. Support was given by INDUCTION and SAINT DEAMON.
Whenever Finnish bands travel around in other parts of the world, we tend to try catch them live at least once. The “Glory and the Beast” tour brought together three of the most exciting bands in the European power metal scene: Brothers Of Metal, Gloryhammer and our Finnish friends of Beast in Black. The tour enthralled fans throughout Germany with a spectacular blend of epic melodies and high-energy performances. See and feel the power of this night of their stop-over in Stuttgart, Germany!
Last Monday, TuskaLive and Grey Beard Concerts & Management brought the carnival to town. To be precise, the Swedish band Avatar and along with them Æther Realm from the USA. Avatar played a very fun show at Olympia-Kortteli in Tampere, including magic tricks, balloons and of course some good old heavy metal.
At the end of January, Battle Beast and Merta came through Tampere’s Pakkahuone for a powerful sold out show presented by Tuhdimmat Tahdit and Master Events.
Besides starting the new year properly looking to the future, this month we’re also still looking back at all the awesomeness that 2023 brought us. One of those awsome things was the already 3rd edition of the by Bloodred Hourglass curated festival Black Box Mikkeli. They were able to bring a killer line-up again on the 2nd day of their event with besides a fantastic show by themselves, Insomnium, Gaerea, Balance Breach, I Am Your God and Lastout!
