Another Belgian band making its Alcatraz debut this year is Antwerp’s Hope Erodes, but don’t mistake that for a band that’s only just getting started.

Since forming in 2013, the quintet have steadily refined their sound, combining the melodic guitar work of Gothenburg-style melodic death metal with the power and intensity of modern metalcore. After making a name for themselves in the late ’80s and early ’90s with their unique combination of Bay Area-inspired thrash metal and tongue-in-cheek humour, tragedy struck when drummer Marc Vereecken lost his life in a traffic accident in 1993. The band came to an abrupt end, eventually growing into something of a cult name within the Belgian underground.

Fast forward more than three decades, and the story has taken a remarkable turn. Following a successful reissue of their sole album, a new line-up joined original members Jan Van Der Poorten and Gunther Poppe, bringing Dead Serious back to the stage after an incredible 32-year absence. Earlier this year they even released their first new music in 33 years.

Now comes another milestone: their very first appearance at Alcatraz. We have a feeling the Thrashing Duck will receive a very warm welcome.

Few Belgian bands embrace the fun side of heavy metal quite like Sons Of Lioth.

Sons Of Lioth are living proof that you can write fist-pumping heavy metal, have a great sense of humour and put on a thoroughly entertaining live show all at the same time. We’re convinced they’ll bring exactly that spirit to Alcatraz on Friday.

Over the years, Temptations For The Weak have quietly built themselves into one of the most dependable names in the Belgian modern metal scene. Their blend of melody, groove and metalcore has earned them a loyal following, and earlier this year they added another chapter to that journey with the release of their latest album.

Alcatraz feels like exactly the right place to showcase that new material. Sharing the stage with some of the biggest names in heavy music is no small achievement, but it’s also another sign that years of hard work are continuing to pay off.

That adventurous approach has earned them an ever-growing following within Belgium’s heavy music scene, and this year they’ll finally make their Alcatraz debut. It feels like a well-deserved next step for a band that’s been steadily building momentum and isn’t afraid to experiment without sacrificing heaviness.

Not every Belgian band on Friday is out to overwhelm you with blast beats or breakdowns, and that’s exactly why Cowboys & Aliens deserve a spot on your schedule.

For nearly three decades, the Bruges outfit has been flying the flag for Belgian stoner rock and heavy groove metal, establishing themselves as one of the pioneers of the genre in the Benelux. Built around massive Sabbath-inspired riffs, infectious classic rock hooks and a healthy dose of psychedelic atmosphere, they’ve carved out a sound that’s unmistakably their own.

Over the years, Cowboys & Aliens have shared stages with the likes of Queens of the Stone Age, Deep Purple and Monster Magnet, while steadily building a loyal following across Europe. This year also marks a special milestone for the band, as they celebrate their 30th anniversary with the release of their latest album, Finis Temporum.

Their appearance at Alcatraz is another reminder that heavy music comes in many different forms. If you’re in the mood for huge grooves, fuzz-drenched riffs and a set that lets you nod along just as enthusiastically as you mosh, Cowboys & Aliens are well worth checking out.

There are few Belgian bands that have made as much of an impact on the international heavy music scene as Amenra.
