Blackened doom metallers Offernat announce new album and share opening track

“Consumed by inner worlds one looks to the stars for meaning. The sanctity of the mind spills over the horizon of existence, and detachment and isolation fuel our thoughts on a conspicuous plain of truth. The future becomes shrouded in mysteriously dark shadows, and the mind is only momentarily able to grasp the reality of what is. In these moments, we are unshackled, and we are everything and nothing. It is to come to terms with one’s mortality. The ecstasy of death awaits.”

Enter the world of Offernat and their third full length album “The Ecstasy of Death”. This release brings new highs and lows to the Offernat world that in a typically sad and gloomy Offernat fashion tackles personal turmoil, grief and our own existence, but this time with a hopeful gaze on the horizon. As the band announces the new album for a September 11th release, they equally share the 12-minute long album opener ‘Tears Dissolved in Light’.

Labelled “Progressive Blackened Doom Metal” by themselves, “The Ecstasy of Death” is the natural successor to 2024’s “Where Nothing Grows”. While still relying on long-form song structure, “The Ecstasy of Death” draws on a wider range of inspiration from extreme metal genres but also more traditional heavy metal and ambient. Along with Offernat’s established sound, the listener will encounter many new elements to their music such as low growls, inward screams, keyboards, more elaborate melodies and a large variety of effects.

This expanse of sonic vocabulary is also reflected in the album artwork that sees a departure from the previous black/white aesthetic into a cold landscape of colours. Over the course of approximately 53 minutes, these many elements come together in taking the listener on a melancholic and introspective journey through faster tempi, heavier grooves and more hypnotic soundscapes than on previous works.
