So folk here we go again as the year draws to an end we all get to select great albums that made it to our list. As you know my top ten list outlines my favorite albums mainly from two genres! As usual, I have come out with the ultimate list that features all the albums that I had been listening to, however, it feels rewarding to finally review them. My yearly ritual in selecting the most influential albums required too much effort and sacrifice! But I must say that the year 2021 in death metal was pretty good as I come to discover some new outstanding bands, but the fact is that most of the albums on this article deserve to be mentioned in this article. I have also discovered plenty of worthy bands like Devoid of Thoughts, Cadaveric Fumes, Fossilization, Diskord, and Malignant Altar, and many more….thanks to the record labels like 20 Buck Spin and Everlasting Spew Records for introducing the masses with some high-quality death metal bands.

The giant labels and bands offered tons of outstanding records although the current year started smooth, my first purchase was the new Asphyx and Frozen Soul albums, there were countless bands who have released new albums/EPs.  As an aficionado of death metal, I must say that the expectancy was somehow average especially in the first half of the year. However from June onwards, my list began to take shape as more announcements were made featuring bands like Carcass, Massacre, Lvcifyre, Drawn and Quartered, and Cannibal Corpse. It was enough to feel the sensational excitements of what’s coming ahead.

Among the many highlights of the year, came from the Finnish funeral doom band Skepticism who delivered top-notch quality music, and the British-based death metal cult Grave Miasma who returned after a long hiatus. Of course, the great purveyors of death metal Profound Lore Records, Century Media, and Season of Mist released top-notch records especially for the Asian underground label Transcending Obscurity Records who have been pumping out tons and tons of albums nonstop.

While many albums entered my top list of 60 albums, there was absolutely no way to narrow down my list but of course, there are some albums that I decided not to include into my list surprisingly the death/doom bands scored the highest ratings in my reviews. The most prominent recommendations would be the debut album of the Hungarian band Rothadàs, and Dream Unending with their hypnotic and dreamy quality of atmospheric doom death metal was another favorite, but apart from this the strong comeback album of the Finnish masters’ Hooded Menace who released an excellent material. The highly anticipated return from the Swedish melodic death metal legends Hypocrisy was all that I needed to wrap up my list.

For the old school fans who like their death metal brutal and energetic make your acquaintance with the German death/thrash metal trio Sijjin’s debut album “Sumerian Promises” is definitely an album that you shouldn’t miss!  There are countless other bands that are not mentioned in this article, below you will find all the best releases according to my taste.
