Belgium may be small on the map, but when summer arrives it transforms into one of Europe's most impressive festival destinations. As a publication with its roots in Belgium, we are fortunate enough to call this country home, and every year we are reminded just how many world-class events take place within a few hours of one another. While May already delivered memorable weekends at festivals such as Dunk!festival and Antwerp Metal Fest, the real festival marathon is only beginning. From some of the biggest metal gatherings in the world to eclectic city festivals and intimate community celebrations, Belgium offers something for virtually every music fan almost every weekend.
These are eight Belgian summer events we would wholeheartedly recommend in 2026.
Graspop Metal Meeting
(18–21 June 2026, Dessel)
When discussing Belgian festivals with international visitors, Graspop is usually the first name that comes up. The four-day metal institution in Dessel remains one of Europe’s premier heavy music gatherings and the 2026 edition once again looks enormous. The festival takes place from 18 to 21 June and features more than a hundred acts spread across five stages.
Metal fans can look forward to names such as Megadeth, Anthrax, Mastodon, Cradle of Filth, Cult of Luna, Periphery and Rivers of Nihil. Meanwhile, the broader rock and alternative crowd can enjoy acts such as The Offspring, Limp Bizkit, Bring Me The Horizon, BABYMETAL and Bad Omens. To just name a handful from a list of no less than 135 names spread over the 4 days of festivities. On top of that, there’s a Belgian Beer Bar, there’s a ferris wheel and duck fishing, a food corner with delicious meat, but also vegan and vegetarian food. Organization Inter takes care for the people with a disability, so everything is accessible to everybody.
If your musical diet leans heavy, or even super eclectic in the realms of alternative music, few European festivals rival Graspop. As good as all tickets are sold out (except for the regular tickets for the Friday), find the details here.
Live Is Live
(29 June, Antwerp)
Held in Antwerp, Live Is Live has quickly established itself as an attractive option for music fans who want major international artists without necessarily committing to a multi-day camping festival.
The 2026 edition showcases exactly why the concept works. Nick Cave & The Bad Seeds headline one side of the event, while another day is led by Iron Maiden in what promises to be one of the most anticipated Belgian shows of the summer. For GRIMM readers, the latter date becomes even more appealing thanks to the additions of Epica, Testament, Doro and Fleddy Melculy.
The result is a concert series that comfortably bridges the gap between mainstream appeal and more alternative tastes, all within an accessible city setting.

Rock Werchter
(2–5 July 2026, Werchter)
Few festivals in Europe possess the reputation of Rock Werchter. For decades it has attracted some of the biggest names in music while still leaving room for exciting newcomers and alternative discoveries. The 2026 edition runs from 2 to 5 July and once again offers a remarkably broad lineup. Rock and alternative fans can look forward to The Cure, A Perfect Circle, Rise Against, The Prodigy, Blood Incantation, LANDMVRKS, Psychonaut and All Them Witches.
Beyond the heavier side, the festival also features artists such as Gorillaz, Twenty One Pilots, Mumford & Sons, The xx, Moby and Charlotte de Witte. Rock Werchter‘s greatest strength remains its ability to bring vastly different audiences together without feeling fragmented. One moment you can be watching one of the biggest bands in the world, while the next you discover your new favourite artist on a smaller stage.

Rock Zottegem
(10-12 July, Zottegem)
Rock Zottegem has long been one of Belgium’s most beloved summer traditions. While some festivals continuously reinvent themselves, Rock Zottegem succeeds by staying true to what it does best: presenting a strong lineup in a relaxed atmosphere where audiences of all ages can simply enjoy a great day of live music.
The 2026 edition combines major international names with several artists that have helped shape Belgium’s own musical legacy. Snow Patrol headlines the first festival day, while Belgian rock institution dEUS, fellow homegrown favourites The Scabs and one of Belgium’s most exciting contemporary artists in Sylvie Kreusch joining the bill of that day among others. The second day brings more heavy and alternative work with Belgium’s metal icons Channel Zero, the hard rock of Steel Panther, and the electronic pioneering of Kraftwerk to name a few.
That combination of nostalgia, Belgian pride and international appeal is exactly what has kept Rock Zottegem relevant for decades. Get your tickets here.

Lokerse Feesten
(31 July – 9 August, Lokeren)
One of Belgium’s most unique festivals, Lokerse Feesten stretches across ten days and treats each evening as its own carefully curated event.
While metal fans may notice the absence of heavy acts that occasionally appeared in previous editions, there is still plenty here to attract GRIMM readers. The industrial and alternative crowd will undoubtedly be drawn towards the impressive evening featuring Gary Numan, Cabaret Voltaire, Soft Cell, The Human League, Gavin Friday, Factory Floor, Luc Van Acker and Potochkine. It is not every day that so many influential names from the worlds of post-punk, industrial and electronic music share a bill.
The festival’s punk-focused day is equally enticing, bringing together Gogol Bordello, Therapy? performing their landmark album Troublegum, Dropkick Murphys, The Scratch, The Rumjacks, Madra Salach and Waste. Meanwhile, alternative rock fans can look forward to a strong combination of Suede, Editors and Anna Calvi.
Even the more mainstream days contain gems worth exploring, including a Lenny Kravitz headline show supported by De’Wayne and Emmy D’Arc. Lokerse Feesten remains one of the best examples of how diverse a festival can be without losing its identity.

Alcatraz Festival
(7–9 August, Kortrijk)
What started as a beloved Belgian metal festival has grown into one of Europe’s most impressive heavy music gatherings. Although the festival has grown over the years, and has become more popular, Alcatraz still has the family friendly and cosy vibe that Graspop has outgrown. You can expect the same welcoming atmosphere and strong sense of community that helped build its reputation in the first place year after year. The 2026 edition once again demonstrates why the festival has become a pilgrimage site for metal fans from across Europe. Appearances from legends such as Savatage, Testament, Crimson Glory and Dirkschneider sit alongside festival favourites including Powerwolf, Arch Enemy, Saxon, Soulfly and Biohazard.
The modern side of heavy music is equally well represented, with acts such as Slaughter To Prevail, Paleface Swiss, Orbit Culture, Northlane, Bleed From Within, Chelsea Grin, The Ghost Inside and Of Mice & Men showcasing where the scene is heading. Meanwhile, fans looking for more adventurous sounds can dive into performances by Alcest, Amenra, Igorrr, Animals As Leaders, Soen and Voivod.
Extreme music enthusiasts are spoiled for choice as well, with Satyricon, Anaal Nathrakh, Deicide, Immolation, 200 Stab Wounds, Sanguisugabogg, Blackbraid, Carach Angren and The Ruins of Beverast all appearing across the weekend. Add cult favourites such as Primus, HEALTH, Crowbar and Combichrist, together with a strong contingent of Belgian talent including Channel Zero, Amenra, Psychonaut, Enthroned, Brutal Sphincter, Modder, Turpentine Valley and RONKER, and even some room for a couple of acts from our second home of Finland with Amorphis and our favorite younglings Luna Kills! It becomes clear that Alcatraz remains one of the most diverse heavy music festivals on the continent that honors the past while looking ahead to what comes next.
And on top of that, the organisation makes sure to create an atmosphere unrivaled within Belgium with the main stage (also known as Prison Stage) looking like a scene straight from Alcatraz prison, torches being lit when it gets darker and pyro spewing from the tops of the Prison Stage and soundmix tower, plenty of decorations all over the place and activities like a soap slide when the weather allows it, freakshow characters and the mascot zombie prison guard with his catsuit dressed assistants roaming the grounds interacting with people and of course plenty of good food and beer to enjoy.
Whether your tastes lean towards classic heavy metal, modern metalcore, underground extremity or boundary-pushing experimentation, Alcatraz offers a lineup and atmosphere few festivals can rival. Get your tickets here.
Parkpop Oostkamp
(21-23 August, Oostkamp)
Not every festival recommendation needs to come with a hefty ticket price. Parkpop Oostkamp proves that free festivals can deliver lineups that would impress even seasoned concertgoers. For GRIMM readers in particular, the Saturday programme stands out. Acts such as Caliban, Deez Nuts, Nervosa, Parasite Inc., The Casualties, Signs of Algorithm and Secondhand Saints create a surprisingly heavy bill that rivals many paid festivals.
Combined with its welcoming atmosphere and free admission, Parkpop Oostkamp has quietly become one of Belgium’s most appealing hidden gems for heavy music fans. Find more info here.
Pukkelpop
(22 - 23 August, Kiewit)
Looking at the lineup, it is easy to understand the demand. While Pukkelpop continues to blend major pop, electronic and hip-hop artists with emerging talent from every corner of the musical spectrum, there is also plenty for alternative-minded festivalgoers to get excited about. The lineup features everything from the post-hardcore intensity of Fiddlehead and Stick To Your Guns to the explosive energy of Turnstile, Amyl and the Sniffers and Lambrini Girls. Elsewhere, Chat Pile, Deafheaven, Witch Fever and Maruja offer some of the most adventurous sounds on the bill, while The Hives, Wet Leg, Yungblud and Deftones provide some of the festival’s biggest alternative draws.
Pukkelpop has always excelled at creating a space where musical worlds collide. Whether you arrive for the heavier acts, the electronic innovators, artists such as Joy Orbison and The Subs, or the biggest names on the main stage, chances are you’ll leave having discovered something completely unexpected. For more info go here.

Whether your ideal summer involves four days of relentless metal and rock at Graspop, discovering new alternative favourites at Rock Werchter, spending ten evenings in Lokeren, or enjoying a smaller-scale celebration such as Parkpop, Belgium offers an astonishing concentration of quality festivals within a relatively small area.
For music fans looking to plan a European festival trip in 2026, our home country continues to make a very compelling case.
