Darkthrone on its 20th album tackles the old era of traditional metal in a very conventional method. Although some of the tracks may lack the raw organic sound, nevertheless “Astral Fortress” is an epic blackened and doom-laden heavy metal record that is gritty and bold to its core! Out via Peaceville Records.
8 years after the near perfect ‘The Year is One’, one of the longest running Finnish doom acts Spiritus Mortis has returned with a new lineup and a fifth album ‘The Great Seal’, easing down a bit on the heavy doom riffery and replacing it with simply epic sounding heavy metal. Out on Svart Records since last Friday.
Made out of part Eternal Champion and part former Magic Circle comes Sumerlands’ sophomore on Relapse Records ‘Dreamkiller’ which sees these heavy metal warriors take on a more AOR oriented approach. So strap yourself into the Delorean, fire up the flux capacitor and head for the Sumerlands. They don’t have roads there.
